Study shows increased added sugar intake coincides with increased weight gain.

While other lifestyle factors can certainly be attributed to the upward trend in obesity, researchers recently concluded a study looking at 27 years worth of data evaluating trends for increases in body weight and dietary intake of foods and beverages with added sugars. The researchers found that as dietary intake of added sugars increased so did body weight levels. Reduce sugar by incorporating the following tips:

  • Take sugar (white and brown), syrup, honey and molasses off the table — out of sight, out of mind!
  • Buy sugar-free or low-calorie beverages.
  • Substitute unsweetened applesauce for sugar in recipes (use equal amounts).
